Supportive & Involved Families

We believe that a parent or guardian is a child’s first and most important teacher; therefore, we include parents in the learning process and insist on parental involvement in our program. We encourage and facilitate communication between home and school, including an awareness of current trends in education and sharing planned activities for the children. We designed our program to foster relationships between home and school and between families of the children within each class and in the entire Cedar Crest community.

What does Parent Involvement Mean?

Parental involvement includes partnering with Cedar Crest to support your child’s learning, but it is also a commitment to communication, volunteer hours, and participation in events with your child.

Just as an active parent is essential to the success of an individual child, an active parent community is essential to the success of the school. We understand most parents are very busy. For this reason, we have developed the following list of involvement opportunities necessitating various levels of time and effort. Please do not feel limited by this list, as we intend it to serve as a springboard from which you may develop your ideas for involvement.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer in your child’s classroom
Join the Parents Association that meets at regularly scheduled times
Attend and assist with special family functions
Share customs, hobbies, and careers with the children when you have expertise related to the weekly curriculum topic
Work closely with your child’s teacher, ensuring active and continual dialogue regarding your child’s progress
Be involved with our philanthropic functions
Share your talents with the children – from playing an instrument to reading a book or puppet play.
Provide feedback, suggestions, and constructive criticism on how we can improve our program

Communication & Fees

By joining the Cedar Crest community, parents commit to reading Daily Happenings, staying up to date on postings on the Parent Board, responding to teacher e-mails, and participating in monthly events. Cedar Crest Academy requires both time and a monetary commitment to our active Parent Group Association. Parent participation in Cedar Crest Academy’s Parent Association is mandatory and requires an annual membership fee of approximately $100 per child. Cedar Crest Academy also requires families to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours throughout the school year.
