Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum age for enrollment at Cedar Crest Academy?
- For our Preschool classes children must be age 3 by August 31, for Pre-K children must be age 4 by August 31, and for Kindergarten they must be age 5 by August 31 of the School Year for which you are applying.
- What qualifications do the teachers possess?
- Each of our teachers is highly qualified and experienced. Biographies of our teachers, including training and experience, are posted on the classroom doors and can be found on the Staff page.
- How do enroll I my child?
- Please see the Enrollment Procedures page for detailed enrollment information and a printable application.
- What happens after I enroll?
- Before your child's start date, we'll set up a "play date" for your child. He or she will spend some time getting to know the teachers and classmates, and you'll have an orientation with one of our Directors.
- Please explain the classroom rotation.
- Each classroom serves as a Homeroom to one of our classes, and throughout the day each class and it's teachers journey together from one discovery-based classroom to another. This gives children the opportunity to engage in and explore each area while preventing them from being stifled and growing bored in one classroom throughout the entire day. Your child's primary teacher moves with the class from one learning station to another. This provides continuity and stability while the children are exposed to changes in their environment.
- What are the program hours?
- Cedar Crest Academy is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Our full day program is from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and our core curriculum, pull-out classes, and extra-curricular activities take place during these hours. Children are expected to be at school by 9:15 so that they do not miss core components of the curriculum (such as Language Arts or Math). We also offer before and after school care at an additional cost. Before and after school care includes structured activities, but our core curriculum is administered during regular program hours.
- What is included in the cost of tuition?
- Tuition includes our core curriculum (Language Arts, Math, etc.), our specialized pull-out classes in Spanish, Art, and Science, and extra-curricular activities (vendors rotate during the year; offerings include KinderMusik, Tumblebus, Yoga, and others). Cedar Crest also provides lunch and two snacks during the day. Breakfast is included for children enrolled in before-school care.
- What are pull-out classes?
- In addition to our core curriculum, we are proud to offer specialty classes taught by teachers with specialized training and expertise in Spanish, Art, and Science.
- Is there a difference between the two campuses?
- The hours of operation, curriculum, school closures, and vendors will be the same. The teachers will be of similar caliber in terms of education and experience.
- What does 'Parental Involvement' mean?
- Parents need to attend at least two Parent Group meetings per year, attend CCA's monthly events, and stay involved in their child's education by reading the 'Daily Happenings' and following up at home.
